As healthcare providers in private practice, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and mental health professionals are continually seeking new ways to expand their practices and connect with patients. As a speech language pathologist, I too have explored countless ways to reach patients. From old-fashioned brochures and business cards to Google and Facebook ads, I've spent a lot of time and money getting my name out there with varying results. It was not until I went online to book an acupuncture appointment for myself that I realized that I should be pursuing an avenue that I often used for myself - ZocDoc. ZocDoc is a website and app that allows patients to search for doctors and other health practitioners in their area. Patients input their location and reason for searching, and a variety of practitioners appear for them to choose from. Zocdoc gives the option for practitioners to list in-person or virtual appointment availability. Patients select an appointment time, and the patient is now yours. Win-win! This may sound too good to be true - and I really think that it is. As a practitioner, it is free to add your profile to ZocDoc and become searchable to patients. When a patient books their initial visit, you are then charged $45 (as of the date of this blog post). As a virtual speech language pathologist, I use my first session as a free consultation through HIPAA-compliant video chat. It may sound like a risk to pay $45 for an appointment that may not result in a paying client, but to me it has yielded MUCH higher success than the hundred of dollars per month that I have spent on Google or Facebook Ads. Listing on ZocDoc has been completely worth it to me, and here is why: *Virtual Telehealth Expansion: Zocdoc is an ideal avenue for practitioners in the virtual Telehealth space. With an increasing demand for remote healthcare services, Zocdoc allows you to broaden your reach and connect with patients seeking online therapy and counseling. The beauty of Zocdoc lies in its ability to connect you to any patient searching for services in your state. Whether you're based in the heart of a city or a rural town, your practice can be discovered by patients statewide, maximizing your potential reach. I currently am helping patients that I would never have been able to due to our distance from each other. *Tailored for Diverse Specialties: From speech therapists to occupational therapists and mental health professionals, ZocDoc caters to a wide range of specialties. This inclusivity ensures that patients seeking services across various disciplines can effortlessly find and book appointments with you. I also love that patients can search for providers based on their symptoms, so patients may be directed to you that were originally unaware of your professional abilities and scope of practice. *Seamless Virtual Appointment Booking: With ZocDoc, the process of booking virtual appointments becomes seamless. Patients can easily view your availability and schedule appointments online, eliminating the hassle of back-and-forth communication. When signing up for ZocDoc as a practitioner, you will list weekly available times and the patient can schedule the appointment on their own. You will be notified of the appointment and will be prompted to confirm it. *Good Attendance: ZocDoc's automated appointment reminders play a pivotal role in reducing no-show rates for virtual Telehealth sessions. Patients receive timely reminders, ensuring a more consistent and organized schedule for you. I also love that when patients sign up for ZocDoc to book an appointment, they have to input their reason for appointment, enter their insurance information, and confirm their account through email. This ensure that only serious patients book an appointment. I have not had any no-shows to date! *Attracting New Patients: By joining ZocDoc, you gain access to an extensive pool of patients actively searching for Telehealth services. This exposure helps attract new clients, leading to potential long-term partnerships. This is especially great for practitioners who are in a field in which weekly or monthly sessions are common. An initial booking fee for a long-term weekly patient is well-worth paying. *Cost-Effective Listing: The best part about listing your Telehealth practice on ZocDoc is currently free! You can set up your profile without any upfront costs, making it a risk-free investment in expanding your practice's online presence. *Pay-for-Performance: ZocDoc operates on a pay-for-performance model, where you are only charged a nominal fee of $45 when a patient successfully books an appointment with you. This ensures that you receive value for money, paying only for tangible results. As stated before, this is much more cost-effective than Google and Facebook ads in my experience. ZocDoc is such a great opportunity for small, private practice clinicians with ongoing patients. The low-risk, high-reward setup has really yielded some great results for me.
