Speech Language Therapy
Thrive Speech, Feeding, and Myofunctional Therapy is committed to providing fun, high-quality speech language therapy services from the comfort of your home. Our goal is to help you or your child develop their speech and language, feeding, and myofunctional therapy skills in order to improve their functioning in every day life. Together, we will develop a weekly schedule to that will most effectively support you or your child's progress.
Through in-person or video conference technology, we use research-based methods to target a variety of speech and language goals. Thrive Speech, Feeding, & Myofunctional Therapy provides both in-person and online speech therapy and evaluations.

Individual Therapy Sessions
Together, we will develop a program consisting of individual sessions that will best fit your child's needs. This will be based on your child's background history, development, current skills, and response to clinician prompts.
Articulation
Articulation refers to how someone produces the sounds that make up their language. Some children make errors when producing specific sounds, while others have patterns in the errors that they are making. These errors can impact a child’s ability to be understood when speaking, possibly having a negative effect on their communication and self-esteem.

- frontal "lisp" (tongue comes out when saying "s")
- lateral "lisp" (air comes out sides of mouth when saying "s" instead of the front)
- "r" and "l"
- error patterns, such as: omitting sound in clusters ("stop" becomes "top"), fronting ("kite" becomes "tite")
- inability to produce difficult sounds
- simplifying long words
Comprehension
Comprehension refers to what a person is able to understand. A child with comprehension difficulties may have difficulty following directions throughout their day. They may also have trouble answering a variety of questions. Older children with comprehension difficulties may get “stuck” when answering questions about a story or passage they have read.

- answering questions (who, what, where, when, why, how)
- following directions
- inferencing, such as predicting, finding problem/solution, summarizing, determining main idea
- reading comprehension
Expressive language
Expressive language is a person’s ability to put their thoughts into words and sentences. Some children have trouble clearly expressing what they are thinking. Young children that are “late talkers” have delayed expressive language. These delays can follow children throughout school resulting in difficulty with grammar, vocabulary, writing, and overall communication.

- grammar in speaking and writing

- describing items and events
- recalling events and retelling stories
social language
Social language, or pragmatics, is how we use language and communication skills to interact with others. This includes deciding what to say and how to say it. This also includes non-verbal communication, such as eye contact, facial expressions, and body language. Children with social language difficulties may have difficulties having conversations with their peers.

- asking social questions
- staying on topic
- making interesting and relevant comments

Reading
Phonemic awareness is the ability to hear, identify, and manipulate individual sounds in words. These skills are essential in order to learn how to read and write. When children have limited phonemic awareness skills, they will have great difficulty reading and writing. Improving a child's ability to manipulate these sounds will help them to develop a strong foundation for literacy.

- initial and final sound identification
- vowel identification
- blending sounds (essential skill for reading)
- segmenting sounds (essential skill for writing)
